PHL brings travel advisory complaint to UN body

 The Philippines has brought before the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) its complaint against travel advisories that warned of “imminent" terrorist attacks in the country early this month.

Peasant leader shot dead inside army area in N. Ecija

A 78-year-old leader of a local peasant group was gunned down Friday afternoon inside a military reservation in Central Luzon, and militants have pointed to the military as suspect.

Pascual Guevarra, a farmer, was shot dead around 4:45 p.m. on July 9 by two motorcycle-riding men who went inside his house in Brgy. San Isidro in Laur town, situated inside the Fort Magsaysay Military Reservation in Nueva Ecija province.

After media missteps, Palace to unveil 'communications group' Monday

After nearly two weeks of clumsy media relations, Malacañang will formally announce on Monday the composition of President Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III’s "communications group."

Filipino worker killed in Iran

 MANILA, Philippines—A Filipino migrant worker was stabbed dead on July 1 by a Sudanese national in an undisclosed location on Kish Island, Iran, a migrant worker group said Friday.

The victim, Mark Lloyd Carmen, 24, was "waiting for the issuance of his reentry visa to the United Arab Emirates when he was killed," according to the Riyadh-based OFW group Migrante-Middle East (M-ME).

5 Chinese nationals yield P100m in illegal drugs

Authorities arrested on Thursday night 5 Chinese nationals and seized at least 20 kilograms of shabu worth about P100 million after raiding a makeshift laboratory in Sta. Ana, Manila.

Metro Manila Police Chief Roberto Rosales three male suspects and a woman were caught during the 7 p.m. raid of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force in a townhouse on New Panaderos Street.

Lacson gets new Senate office

MANILA, Philippines—Sen. Panfilo Lacson may be missing the past six months, but he is getting a new office in the Senate.

Lacson has been assigned to the office of former Sen. Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal, who ran and lost as a presidential candidate in the May 10 elections.

Aquino backs Binay's request for official residence

MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is supporting Vice President Jejomar Binay's request to have an official residence, saying it was just reasonable.

Aquino acknowledges Corona as Chief Justice

 In what could be the start of a good working relationship between the Executive and the Judiciary, President Aquino finally acknowledged Wednesday Chief Justice Renato C. Corona during the “Red Mass” held at the Manila Cathedral.
