Authorities arrested on Thursday night 5 Chinese nationals and seized at least 20 kilograms of shabu worth about P100 million after raiding a makeshift laboratory in Sta. Ana, Manila.
Metro Manila Police Chief Roberto Rosales three male suspects and a woman were caught during the 7 p.m. raid of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force in a townhouse on New Panaderos Street.
He said two more suspects were arrested when they arrived during the raid.
According to Rosales, one of the suspects owned and resided in the unit since 1991.
Rosales said officers seized 20 kilograms of crystal metamphetamine worth about P100 million along with the drug making equipment.
In San Juan City, a raid by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency resulted in the arrest of five people including a non-commissioned police officer.
In a report released by the agency, PDEA head Dionisio Santiago said his staff served a search warrant issued Judge Marivic Balisi-Umali of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 20.
He said PDEA Metro Manila Regional Office director III Wilkins Villanueva identified the suspects as Hermie Jucutan, 46, married, a plumber and his wife, Susan Jucutan, 43, a housewife; Bernadette Jucutan, 29, single, jobless and her live-in partner Michael Tabaya, 32, jobless.
All were residents of Interior San Joaquin, Barangay San Perfecto.
Also arrested was PO2 Apolinario Bayle, Jr., 36, resident of Condo 2, B-1, Camp Crame, Quezon City, who was in the house of the suspects during the operation.
Seized during the search several 11 grams of shabu in transparent plastic sachets were seized, along with drug accessories and a vehicle driven by Jayle.
The suspects will be charged under the Dangerous Drugs law with a maximum 40 years imprisonment. AP with Roy Pelovello
