Reported dengue cases just ‘tip of iceberg,’ says DoH

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The data on dengue cases being received by the Department of Health (DoH) in Bukidnon, the province with the most number of cases in Northern Mindanao, is feared to be just “the tip of the iceberg” and that many other cases remain unreported, a provincial health official disclosed Thursday.

Seaports ship calls down in 2010

THE number of ship calls for the first quarter this year went down slightly compared to the same period in 2009, records from the National Economic Development Authority (Neda) in Northern Mindanao disclosed.

Neda noted 0.40 percent decrease in the number of ship dockings in major seaports in Northern Mindanao.

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—The worst is yet to come.

This is the gist of the warning issued by a business organization here against being complacent regarding the power situation in Mindanao.

Decrease in customers buying sirens expected

CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Owners of auto supply stores in this city expected a decrease in the number of customers buying sirens and blinkers after President Benigno Aquino III banned the unauthorized use of such devices.

Christian Belnez, who manages Auto Supply, told Sun.Star that most of those who buy the sirens and blinkers are businessmen who have SUVs.

Northern Mindanao first-quarter investments 6% lower

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—While Northern Mindanao continues to be the dominant economy in Southern Philippines during the first quarter of this year, with a 12.4-percent growth, or P11.65 billion, investments in the region, however, decreased during the first quarter, the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda-10)  office in the region said.

Dengue claims 10, downs 1,406 in N. Mindanao

 BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Health (DoH) sounded an alarm over the significant rise in cases of dengue fever in Northern and Northeastern Mindanao, citing 10 deaths out of the 1,406 persons reportedly downed by the mosquito-borne disease.

The DoH offices in Caraga region and Region 10 were already mobilized to help community health officers stop the spread of the dreaded disease, which has taken its toll mostly on children.
